PTA Meetings
The PTA has monthly meetings where we gather to discuss how we can improve our school and enrich the learning environment for our children. PTA meetings are typically the second Thursday of the month in the McKinley Cafegymitorium. The next meetings are:
September 15 (evening) and
October 13 (evening).
Morning meetings are business only, during the Coffee Klatch. Evening meetings begin with a pot-luck dinner at 5:30pm, a half-hour before the meeting, which provides a comfortable atmosphere for parents, students, teachers and staff to socialize. Bring an appetizer, entree, or fruit to share, or come just for the meeting, which starts promptly at 6pm. Children are welcome–childcare will be provided by ASEP for those over two. We strive to keep the meetings short and on topic so we can go home by 7:30pm. The agenda is distributed in the Wednesday folder before the meetings and posted online here. For more information on the meeting, email pta@mckinleyschool.org.
McKinley Elementary School 2011-12 PTA Officers
Patricia McFadden, PTA President
Patricia has a son in fourth grade and a son in second grade. Born and raised in San Francisco, she is an Environmental Engineer and enjoys keeping up with the boys, sewing, and photography.
Katy Wilcoxen, Vice President
Katy has both kids at McKinley this year – one in kindergarten and one in fifth grade. She is also on McKinley’s After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) Board and works at the Environmental Protection Agency. Their family feels lucky to live just down the hill from school (despite having to walk up it two times a day for eleven years!)
Scott Benbow, Vice President of Communications
Scott is married to Athena Papadakos, a clinical psychologist with a private practice in San Francisco. Their son, Maxfield, is an avid second-grade student at McKinley who, in his spare time, collects both flying and crawling insects. Scott was trained as an attorney and practiced law in the US and abroad. For the past decade, he has worked with large grant-making foundations on issues of effectiveness and accountability.
Sian Brady, Treasurer
Sian has a third grader at McKinley. She trained as a physical therapist and is currently working for a relocation company after having relocated to San Francisco over 10 years ago. She loves living in this great city and helping others relocate here.
Kim Krogan, Financial Secretary
Kim is mom to Dalton (third grade) and Shayla (Kindergarten – 2012) and wife to Nevan (Professor – UCSF). Before moving to San Francisco from Canada, she worked as a project manager at an Environmental Laboratory, but now she is enjoying being at home with the kids for awhile. She likes playing sports and hanging out with family and friends.
Robin Dutton-Cookston, Vice President of Development
Robin has a third grader at McKinley and a future McKinley-ite who will enroll in 2012. In her spare time Robin likes to collect sand dollars from the beach, eat dim sum, and run around the city with her family. She also has a “real” job as a writer and editor.
Ben Perry-Thistle, Secretary
Ben is the father to Sidney Jane, a first grader and Jake, Kindergarten 2013. Ben and his wife, Mary, have been residents of San Francisco since the early 1990′s, she is a Master Planner and he works in Safety and Environmental Compliance. Time with their children is spent enjoying the fun and educational opportunities found in this vibrant city. Ben is an avid SF Giants fan. GO GIANTS!
Michelle Lavonier, Legislative Rep
Michelle has daughters in third grade and first grade. On weekends, Michelle can be found cheering on her husband and daughters on the soccer field, tearing through food magazines and trying new recipes. Her future plans include leading tours in France or driving a cab in San Francisco.
